Pyramid Mountain owns itself.

I have been talking with friends in Colorado recently, and it reminded me of this news item that caught my attention a little while ago, in which a local mountain has been recognised as owning itself.

Often, it can be confusing to consider what are, for many, inanimate objects as persons. I will be exploring this with great interest and careful detail in other pieces of work.

For now, I hope that for those of you struggling with this “redefining” of what it means to be a person, I would suggest you consider it as a legal recognition of a right of landforms to be protected from the influence of others.

It establishes a protectorship that is not dependent on ownership, recognising that some land features need protection over many centuries and should be considered outside the jurisprudence of any particular person, community, company, organisation, or government, and their preferences.
